A poisonous fish 'Firecracker'

Although it looks like a cow-poor type, the fish is highly poisonous. This fish is not found much in our sea. But sometimes they are caught in the nets of fishermen. As the fishermen have no idea about this fish, they either eat it themselves or sell it in the market. People get sick or die after eating this poisonous fish. And then the news came out in the newspaper 'So many people are sick or dead in such and such a place after eating fish crackers.' In fact, the people of our country do not know that the whole body of the cracker fish is a bag of poison. Firecrackers contain a deadly poison called tetrodotoxin.  If this poison enters one's body, death is certain. In the aquatic world, there are about a hundred species of small and large crackers. When in danger or excited, they can take the shape of a football by drinking water or blowing air into their stomachs. They have two very strong teeth curved like the beak of a bird. With the help of these teeth they overpower the prey. Their prey is usually snails, oysters, lobsters, etc. Cracker fish cannot swim very well. They move lazily in the water. But when it comes to calculating the poison of firecrackers, it gets tricky.  A medium-sized Japanese firecracker contains enough tetrodotoxin to kill more than 30 people. Even more bitter is the Japanese love of firecrackers, even though they know they are poisonous. Their tongues are always eager to eat cracker soup. Crackers are called 'Fugu' by the Japanese. Fugu crackers are about three feet in size and weigh up to 30 pounds. Some fugu also have spines all over. দেখতে গো-বেচারা টাইপের হলেও মাছটি অত্যন্ত বিষাক্ত। আমাদের সমুদ্রে এই মাছ খুব একটা পাওয়া যায় না। তবে মাঝে মধ্যে জেলেদের জালে ধরা পড়ে। এ মাছ সম্পর্কে জেলেদের কোনো ধারণা না থাকায় তারা নিজেরা এ মাছ খায় অথবা বাজারে বিক্রি করে। বিষাক্ত এ মাছ খেয়ে মানুষ অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়ে অথবা মারা যায়। আর তখন পত্রিকায় খবর বের হয় 'পটকা মাছ খেয়ে অমুক জায়গায় এতজন অসুস্থ কিংবা মৃত।' আসলে আমাদের দেশের মানুষ জানেই না যে, পটকা মাছের শরীর আস্ত এটা বিষের থলি। টেট্রোডোটক্সিন নামে এক বিবশকারী বিষ আছে পটকায়। এই বিষ কারও শরীরে ঢুকলে মৃত্যু অবধারিত। জলজ পৃথিবীতে ছোট-বড় মিলিয়ে প্রায় একশ' প্রজাতির পটকা মাছ আছে। বিপদে পড়লে কিংবা উত্তেজিত হলে পানি খেয়ে অথবা পেটে বাতাস ঢুকিয়ে এরা ফুটবলের আকৃতি ধারণ করতে পারে। টিয়া পাখির ঠোঁটের মতো বাঁকানো অত্যন্ত শক্তিশালী দু'পাটি দাঁত আছে এদের। এই দাঁতের সাহায্যে এরা শিকারকে কাবু করে ফেলে। এদের শিকার সাধারণত শামুক, ঝিনুক, গলদা চিংড়ি ইত্যাদি। পটকা মাছ খুব একটা সাঁতার কাটতে পারে না। পানিতে এরা অলস ভঙ্গিতে চলাফেরা করে। কিন্তু পটকার বিষের হিসাব কষতে গেলে খটকা লেগে যায়। একটা মাঝারি আকারের জাপানি পটকায় যে টেট্রোডোটক্সিন থাকে, তা ৩০ জনেরও বেশি লোকের প্রাণ কেড়ে নেওয়ার জন্য যথেষ্ট। আরও খটকা লাগে বিষাক্ত জেনেও জাপানিদের পটকাপ্রীতি দেখে। তাদের জিহ্বা যেন পটকার স্যুপ খাওয়ার জন্য সারাক্ষণ আকুপাকু করে। পটকাকে জাপানিরা বলে 'ফুগু'। ফুগু পটকা আকারে প্রায় তিন ফুট আর ওজন ৩০ পাউন্ড পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে। কিছু ফুগুর সারা গায়ে আবার কাঁটা থাকে। যাই হোক, বিশেষ প্রশিক্ষণপ্রাপ্ত শেফরা ফুগুর স্যুপ তৈরি করে সরকার অনুমোদিত রেস্তোরাঁগুলোতে।
